Short and Sweet Headlines are Best!

Cattlemen, as another year goes by and we all think about our operations, I think it is a really good opportunity to look at the industry we are involved in and how our individual operations have an effect on that. As we all know we are each a step in a long process, but we have to figure out how to capitalize on the market we choose to hit while also realizing we need to be able to produce cattle that will provide profitability at each level in the chain past ours. As technology increases and weaknesses show now more than ever, as a producer we have to insure we are raising cattle that will profit for the next owner, whoever that is and whatever stage of life our cattle are in. So yes, we are demanding a lot out of the animals and us as producers. Whether its feeder cattle that perform at weaning, the finishing lot and on the grid, or replacements that breed, and develop into cows that raise a big calf year after year. That is a tall order, but it is what our industry demands.

With my consulting job, it has given me such an eye opening and behind the scenes look at the final step in the cattle business. The packer, and how important their final bid is. As true cowmen and women, most importantly we all want to look at a beautiful set of cows. But we also need to realize that the majority of our industry shows up on shelves in the grocery store. With the feeding programs available and the ability to track these cattle from day 1 on the ground into the yard and finally the rail, while also showing individual gain, carcass weight, grade, and giving the feeder an exact close out on each animal it puts a huge demand on the producer. There is no option to get blindsided in our individual operation, just like when it comes to buying a bull, you have many choices, so does the finishing yard.

However, when I see what these elite Angus genetics are doing for the rancher, backgrounder, finisher, packer, and ultimately the end consumer, it is truly amazing. The reports and data given back from the packer to the finisher, and back to the rancher gives proven information when it comes to Rate of Average Daily Gain, Conversion, Yield and Grade, and believe me when finishing yards do close outs those are the numbers that show up. The results show that what we are doing as in industry is impressive, but like all models, there is a top and average selection. Whether it is the finishing yard or the order buyer, it is obvious that they understand genetics more than many of us realize.

We have had the unbelievable opportunity to sell our bulls to some of the top cattle operations in the state and in return have had them advertise our name on their sale day. Believe me, we do not take that lightly! Our dedication to providing cattle that will perform at all levels but never underestimating the maternal importance will never change, this is truly the home of “Maternal Drive Performance”. As always when I know calves sired by our bulls go through the ring. I will make as many calls to as many finishing yards as I can to ensure your success on sale day. It is truly understood we are all in this together and our success depends on your success. We invite you to look at this set of bulls, I think you will find the kind of consistency, proven maternal traits, performance, and end product values second to none.
